The Jewish values of tzedek (social justice) and tikkun olam (repairing the world) inspire our work at Texas Hillel and have become a cornerstone of our programming. Social justice organizations at Hillel include Challah for Hunger, Social Justice Organizing Cohort, We Talk Feminism, LGBTJew, MitzVote, and community organizing efforts. Each year, Texas Hillel also leads social justice events and discussions around the Jewish holidays.
We also proudly offer immersive alternative break experiences based on student interests. Past trips include Hungary/Romania, Argentina, Brooklyn, and New Orleans. Our students have also participated in Give Kids the World. In 2020, we kicked off our first ever Week of Giving, where students had different opportunities to give back to the community, including a blood drive, bone marrow donor registration, and raising money for a local food bank.
