Personal Injury attorney, benefactor, philanthropist, and human rights activist Adam Loewy is a force to be reckoned with. Whether he’s fighting for his clients in the courtroom, campaigning for a Democratic candidate, or helping raise needed funds for the community, Loewy is in it at 100 percent.

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Loewy graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science, and then headed to Austin, where he earned a JD degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 2003.

At UW-M, in addition to his studies, Loewy was elected to Phi Kappa Beta, the oldest and most prestigious honors society in the United States. He also was head of the Distinguished Lecture Series, a student-run programming body that was responsible for bringing in influential speakers. Among his top memories was bringing novelist Kurt Vonnegut to campus.

While attending UT Law, Loewy attended religious services at Texas Hillel but said the academic rigor kept him from immersing himself fully, and his post-graduate life in Austin kept him equally absorbed. He launched Loewy Law Firm in 2005 at the age of 27 and has steadily carved out a name as one of the top personal injury lawyers in Austin based on recovering tens of millions of dollars for his clients over the past 15 years. He has earned numerous awards and accolades including being named “Texas Super Lawyer” every year of eligibility (2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020). Loewy is also a leader in the Austin Bar Association and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.

Along his professional path to success, Loewy has found time to give back, particularly to Jewish causes. In 2015, Rabbi Daniel Septimus, who was the director of Texas Hillel at that time, invited him to be on the Board of Directors, where he continues to serve and remains a proud supporter to this day.

“I am involved because I think it’s really important for Jewish students at UT to have a place to go to socialize, to learn things, and to have fun,” Loewy said. “Hillel does a fantastic job of welcoming anyone who wants to come and learn, and I think it is a really important part of the campus environment.”

Loewy, 42, says the Jewish world today is more diverse and inclusive and that Texas Hillel fosters that Jewish connection.

“Whether it’s people from mixed marriages, Jews of color, or non-Jews who want to hang out with Jews, I think that there is a lot more of that going on than ever before,” Loewy said. “I think it’s really good to foster a diverse environment where everyone is welcome.”

In his free time, Loewy enjoys spending time with his wife, Phil, and their two sons, Clayton, 2, and Lochlan, 5 months. He is also an avid reader and loves to travel and do CrossFit workouts.

Loewy’s passion for his family and his legal practice is matched by his commitment to philanthropy and helping his community. He and Phil have donated over $1.5 million to charities and nonprofits in Austin, including the Loewy Family Playground in Northwest Hills, the Loewy Family Commons at the Austin Center for Grief & Loss, and over $500,000 to Shalom Austin, including a recent $100,000 match gift for its COVID-19 Community Response Fund. In addition, his law firm did a three-year match gift campaign to the Central Texas Food Bank, helping raise over $300,000 in matching gifts.

Furthermore, Loewy has always been a staunch supporter of Democratic politics and recently considered a run for the Texas Senate, which he put on hold for the time being. He also has a keen interest in pro-Israel politics and is involved with The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

“I am doing everything I can to help turn Texas blue,” Loewy said.

Above all, Loewy emphasizes the importance of branching out and meeting new people in order to achieve a joyful life.

“I think that being social and meeting new people is one of the easiest ways to be happy in life,” Loewy said. “It takes some effort, but if you make the effort, your life will be dramatically happier the more people you know.”
