A New Perspective

From August 4-15, Texas Hillel ran our first-ever “Perspectives” trip to Israel for campus leaders. Led by Executive Director, Maiya Chard-Yaron and Jewish Agency Israel Fellow, Shimi Mizrahi and guided by Texas Ex, Daniel Rubinstein, 19 student leaders from diverse backgrounds throughout Israel to learn more about the history, culture, politics, and people of the region. Participants are leaders in a wide range of student organizations at UT and were selected through a rigorous application process. The group had the chance to meet with leading journalists, government and military officials, and community leaders during the trip, introducing them to key voices and perspectives on a number of topics connected to Israel.

One participant shared, “This trip was nothing short of life-changing. I was able to explore a new land in a once-in-a-lifetime way, learning about complicated issues from the people they affect. I added to my own worldview and learned about nuance, compassion, and coexistence. I now bring back with me new friends and important lessons that I hope will improve our campus.”

In 2018-2019, Texas Hillel sent over 200 students to Israel on educational programs. Hillel looks forward to offering the Perspectives trip once again in August 2020. For more information, contact Maiya.
