UT Alumnus Mort Meyerson Offers Well-Lived Life Lessons at Texas Hillel
Texas Hillel was thrilled to host University of Texas at Austin Alumnus Morton Meyerson on April 12 as keynote speaker for the Jewish Student Leadership dinner series. Asked to speak about his life and how Judaism has influenced him, Mr. Meyerson spoke to approximately 50 students about growing up Jewish, cherishing relationships and his love of Jewish learning.
The Jewish Student Leadership dinner is part of an ongoing effort to introduce Texas Hillel student leaders to established Jewish leaders in the community. As a successful businessman and dedicated philanthropist who lives in Dallas, Mr. Meyerson was a fantastic speaker who offered thoughtful life lessons. His wide-ranging speech included discussing the importance of family and personal connections, and his experience growing up with two very different sets of grandparents, one set Reform German and the other set Orthodox Polish. He explained how the adaptability he gained from navigating his family served him well in school and in his career. He also spoke of being “ritualistically challenged” in regards to celebrating holidays while still having a true love of Jewish learning, showing students how he found his own Jewish path. The evening concluded with a thoughtful Q&A, posed as a challenge to the students.
