On December 7, Hillel International recognized Margo Sack for her career milestone at the annual Hillel International Global Assembly in Orlando, FL. In front of hundreds of Hillel professionals, Margo received a stunning award by Judaica artist Gary Rosenthal “In recognition of 25 years of enriching and informing the Jewish campus community and the Hillel family.” During Margo’s 23 years at Texas Hillel, she has enhanced the lives of thousands of students, Hillel staff and community members and helped make Texas Hillel the engaging, welcoming Jewish space it is today. Congratulations, Margo!
Margo’s first job out of college was with Hillel at Case Western Reserve University. For two years, Margo worked in student engagement and programming, including overseeing the Rap Cellar, a café which was run by volunteers. In 1993, Margo came to Texas Hillel. While her titles have changed over the years, Margo maintains she has always had the same job, overseeing programming and student life. Margo’s spent her first couple of years at Texas Hillel working with students who sought out Hillel. But under Margo’s leadership, Texas Hillel began to focus more on engagement through relationship building and reaching out to students who not only seek out Hillel, but also to those who are uninvolved and are looking for ways to connect to their Jewish identity. This outreach and deeper engagement has led to increased student participation and more meaningful interactions over the years.
Margo has cherished her time at Texas Hillel and is amazed by the students, saying “Our students are exceptional. The student-run initiatives, such as Texans for Israel and our social justice programs, are unique to Texas Hillel and a result of our amazing students’ interests.” We congratulate Margo on her milestone award and for the impact she makes each day on the Texas Hillel students.
